Marine Observation Squadron 7 was activated 15 December 1944 at Quantico, VA. After equipping with OY "Grasshoppers", the squadron undertook a short training period before transferring to Ewa, Territory of Hawaii. While at Ewa, VMO-7 trained under the operational control of III Amphibious Corps. VMO-7 departed Pearl Harbor 17 April 1945 aboard two CVEs, arriving at Okinawa between 7 - 11 May. The squadron was based at Chatan Cub airstrip and supported III Amphibious Corps Artillery. VMO-7 was still on Okinawa when the war ended.
VMO-7 returned to San Diego and was deactivated 16 Nov 1945.
