Marine AH-1Gs

In 1969, the Marine Corps borrowed 38 AH-1Gs from the Army while awaiting delivery of their own AH-1J "SeaCobras". Five were used by the Army to train Marine Cobra pilots and one spent its career as a test aircraft. The remainder served in Vietnam with VMO-2 (Apr-Dec 1969) and HML-367 (Dec 1969-Jun 1971). Nine were lost in combat or to operational causes. The survivors went on to serve with HMA-169 (Sept 1971-Aug 76) and HMA-773 (Sept 1971-Nov 78). These were eventually returned to the Army.

All the Gs were issued Navy Bureau Numbers, but retained their Army serial numbers, usually displaying the last six digits.
