HMM-163's 50+ years of distinguished service includes typhoon relief in Japan in the 1950s, combat in Vietnam, and participation in numerous training exercise and deployments. Most recently, HMM-163 was deployed to Afghanistan as the Combat Aviation Element of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) in support of Operation "Enduring Freedom".
